Forklift Attachments Newfoundland - The easternmost province of Canada is the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is situated in the countries Atlantic region, and includes the mainland Labrador region, which is situated northwest of the island of Newfoundland. Together, these two land masses cover a combined area of 405,212 square kilometers or 156,500 square miles.

The city of St. John's is home to about 40% of the province's population. It is home to the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. As well as being the seat of government, Saint John's is likewise home to the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal, which is the highest court in the jurisdiction.

Formerly a dominion and colony of the United Kingdom, Newfoundland and Labrador became the tenth province to enter the Canadian Confederation on March 31, nineteen forty nine, as Newfoundland. An amendment was made to the Constitution of Canada on the 6th of December, 2001, to officially change the name to Newfoundland and Labrador. Generally, in every day conversation, Canadians still refer to the province itself as Newfoundland. They normally refer to the region situated on the Canadian mainland as Labrador.

The origin of the name Newfoundland originated from English as "New Found Land" and is a translation from the Latin Terra Nova. It is unsure where the origin of Labrador originates from; it has been credited to a Portuguese explorer Joćo Fernandes Lavrador.

The province has undergone a miserable economy for several years. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador saw record unemployment rates after the collapse of the cod fishery. Throughout this time the population decreased by roughly 60,000. In recent years, the provincial economy has rebounded because of major mining and oil discoveries offshore. The population has stabilized, job loss rates went down and there has been some moderate development in the region. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador have become ridden of their "have not" status because of recorded record surpluses.

The service businesses such as financial services, health care and public administration take up the biggest share of the province's GDP. Other important businesses comprise manufacturing, oil production and mining. In the year 2010, the province's total labor force was recorded at around 263,800 individuals. During the year 2008, the GDP per capita was 61,763 that was third only to the provnces of Alberta and Saskatchewan amongst the Canadian provinces and was higher than the national average.

The fishing business still to this day is a very important sector of the economy, with roughly $440 million in contributions to the GDP, while hiring over 26,000 individuals. The main fish harvested include cod, haddock, mackerel and herring, coming in at one hundred sixty five thousand tons in 2006, valued at about $130 million. That same year, shellfish such as clams, crab and shrimp accounted for two hundred fifteen thousand tons at a value of three hundred sixteen million dollars. The seal hunt and its products accounted for fifty five million dollars.
