Forklift Attachments High River - The town of High River is situated in southwestern Alberta, and now boasts a population of just about 11,000 inhabitants. The town of High River is just south of Calgary by roughly 37 kilometres or 23 miles, and sits at the crossroads of the 23 and 2 Highways. Although somewhat distant from the city of Calgary, the town is nonetheless considered to be part of the Calgary Area.

The community gets its name from the Highwood River, which flows through the town, and usually floods in springtime.

Joe Clark, former Canadian Prime Minister was born within the town of High River. Other popular former citizens include W.O. Mitchell, author of such books as Roses Are Difficult Here and Who Has Seen the Wind, and NHL and WHA hockey player John "Pie" McKenzie.

The town was the place for Smallville in Superman III and was the site utilized for Montana in Caitlin's Way, which is a series on Nickelodeon. Recently, a CBS television series, Heartland has found High River its main filming spot. Additionally, the movie Carolina Moon based on the book by Nora Roberts was filmed in High River.

Many murals have been painted around the town of High River throughout much of the last 3 decades in order to help promote High River's heritage and tourism endeavours. High River hosted the World Professional Chuckwagon Association Dodge Pro Tour Championships in 2006 and the year 2010.

There was a tree which stood near the existing town location of High River that was called the Medicine Tree. It was created through a natural grafting which happened between two cottonwood trees, when the branch of one grew into the trunk of the other.

The indigenous peoples, particularly the Blackfoot and Stony, considered this to be a sign from the Spirits that the location was favoured. It was also near the Medicine Tree that traders determined to build a fort, and soon after settlers arrived to claim the land which is currently High River.

The Town of High River Culture Centre is a venue for a variety of programs, activities, and special events which are designed to work towards the provision and coordination of services which meet the needs of the local community. Programs are for all ages and are intended to expose the local community to a wide variety of opportunities.

The Culture Centre contains a large studio which is used for different activities including classes in dance, music and the arts, as well as general interest and health and wellness courses.
